The Power of Focus and Conviction, Harnessed for Growth Elimination of tasks is growing your ability to deliver on your main thing Distractions from your core revenue generating activity must be “ruthlessly” eliminated. Focus is a superpower and must be embraced. In a growth-oriented role, if you’re a thinker or have success under your belt, you need to align your purpose and passion to support your growth objectives. Why is this important? If you don’t, you’re like the entrepreneur or student who keeps switching because it’s hard or not always the most fun. You must embrace the suck which has been famously said again and again. Otherwise you are starting over each time, otherwise you focus on everything except your work, team, and clients. Focus Drives Growth How do you power your work through focus? Consider these concepts: Action grows confidence Doing makes you better Find focus through action If you’re going to do it, learn to love it Gravitate towards the hard and needle-moving work Cut out fluff and “fake work” (Cal Newport comments) Focus first, everything else next Warren Buffett prioritization Courtesy of Brooke LeBlanc sharing, created by Farnam Street Strategy, Planning, and Thinking As a leader, this is where so much of my ideas and energy stemmed from, but in a growth-first role, thinking is a trap to avoid work if you overdo it. Having a plan is great, but not at the expense of traction with winning business. Thinking helps you direct your action, however, sometimes you must do and come back and think more later. It’s imperative to not allow thinking, planning, strategy fruitless networking, or other activities become a distraction. Traction then refine plans. Make the one core activity your habit— it’s your practice. It’s what you do. Not only because of the outcomes that eventually come, but because it’s what you do. (Concept from Seth Godin’s, “The Practice” - my summary and link to book are here) What impacts your ability to focus? Environment Options Social Conflicting thoughts and desires Procrastinating activities This list is just a start to name a few, and this list could go on for awhile. Commitment Lack of commitment is because of the fear from uncertainty or lack of clarity. You will find distractions anywhere if you don’t want to do the work. You will make yourself procrastinated with easier or more routine work. My focus is to identify the best customers to partner with, delivering exceptional value through smart solutions with the best service. We’re growing our core business and establishing our brand in Central and Southern Indiana, and beyond, allowing our core business to build reputation and customer connection, and eventually opening opportunities in managed project services, innovative delivery solutions, and consulting or advisory opportunities. I help companies find their greatness through delivering talent solutions, managed projects, and consultation or coaching. Solutions, talent, delivery, and advisory. I’m delivering more of what clients need, and less of what they don’t, building our own way. Keep the main thing, the main thing…with focus on colleagues and customers. I’m excited to share the journey as we scale this business. The ridge Photo by Ronan Furuta on Unsplash Hopefully, this added a little value to your business or your career. Thank you for reading.
